The Arizona rancher dog is welcomed as a hero after saving a local two-year-old boy who spent the night in the desert nearly seven miles from his home.
On Monday evening, the Yabapay County Sheriff’s Office received the report of a missing toddler, Borden Allen. The agency said in a Facebook post.
According to the sheriff’s office and the desert area he walked, Allen wore a tank top and pajama pants, spending about 16 hours alone as he wandered. At least two mountain lions were spotted that night. However, at 9am local time, he was retrieved by a dog named Buford.
Paul Wick, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, told NPR that Allen’s parents were “distraught” at the boy’s loss and shared a tearful reunion upon his return.
In an interview with Sheriff’s officerancher Scotty Dundon said, “I heard about a missing child before going to town. As I was driving down the driveway, I noticed a dog sitting by the entrance.
Danton says he suspected that the boy chased the power line from his house and that Buford had found him and brought him.

Buford is an Anatolia Pyrenees and is attracting attention for its size and soft nature.

Danton told authorities that when he first turned two, the boy needed water and food to calm himself down before explaining that he spent the night lying under a tree.
