Four Democrats landed in El Salvador on Monday, supporting deported illegal immigrants who were accused of beating their wives and being members of the MS-13 gang.
California Democrat Robert Garcia, Yassamine Ansari of Arizona, Maxwell Frost of Florida and Maxine Dexter of Oregon traveled to Central America countries to demand the return of Kilmer Abrego Garcia. According to Press release by lawmakers. The trip was the latest exchange between the Trump administration and Congressional Democrats, vehemently demanding that Abrego Garcia be brought back to the United States. “Donald Trump and his administration run government-funded temptation programs, which are illegally arrested, imprisoned, and deported to innocent people with zero due process,” Frost argued in a prepared statement. “Kilmer Abrego Garcia is Trump’s latest victim.”
“There’s no way Donald Trump can’t escape this,” Frost continued.

The congressional trip follows a recent visit by Maryland Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen, who was able to speak directly with Abrego Garcia and vowed to continue fighting for his return.
Abrego Garcia, a Salvador citizen who had previously illegally entered the United States, was among the more than 200 Venezuelans and Salvadorians who were expelled in March, was sent to the Centre for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT), a megaprison built by President Naive Buquer, to house his national population and other civilian criminals. The Trump administration has admitted in court applications that his deportation was the result of a misdeed, but withholding of his dismissal banned repatriation to El Salvador – the White House was standing by his removal due to his gang bonds and alleged other criminal activities.
After illegally entering the United States in 2011, Abrego Garcia settled in Maryland and met American citizen Jennifer Vasquez Sula. His issues with law enforcement began in 2019 when Prince George County police arrested him and accused informants of having MS-13 gang member bonds. He was later transferred to Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody and deported by an immigration judge.
Sula and Abrego Garcia got married in 2019 while in ice custody, court records show.
Abrego Garcia was ordered to be deported by an immigration judge, but he ultimately managed to get withholding for removal, banning repatriation to El Salvador, and withholding of removal benefits remained in the United States, allowing him to gain work privileges.
The Trump administration’s approval that Abrego Garcia’s deportation was the result of an error that sparked an immense backlash from the Democrats.
Van Hollen visited El Salvador in the beginning of April, first meeting with the country’s vice president and later won a sit-in meeting with Abrego Garcia himself. Four House Democrats said their trip was self-funded as House Supervisory Committee Chairman James Kommer “refusing to approve” taxpayer dollars and paying for the trip.

The Trump administration has taken its own steps to oppose criticism.
On Wednesday, the White House released documents for Abrego Garcia’s Gang Thailand, highlighting MS-13 membership in Prince George’s county police interviews, an immigration court ruling, and alien records from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The documents included statements from law enforcement sources identifying Abrego Garcia’s gang rank and nickname.
DHS also issued a domestic violence control order that Abrego Garcia’s wife had previously sought in 2021. Despite now fighting for his return, Sula claimed that her husband once became repeatedly aggressive and hurt her during her marriage.
The Trump administration also hosted Patty Morin at the White House during Van Hollen’s visit to El Salvador. Morin’s daughter was raped and killed by illegal immigrants in 2023 while hiking on a local Maryland trail. Morin, a Maryland resident, expressed his sadness that Van Hollen has made so much effort to help illegal immigrants he has never offered to help search for his daughter’s murderer or reach out to his family.
DHS also confirmed to daily callers that Abrego Garcia was suspended in December 2022 on suspicion of human trafficking. During a traffic stop by a Tennessee Highway Patrol Officer in December 2022, Salvadora citizens were found transporting eight passengers across the United States who were thought to have been trafficked by passengers but were believed to have been let go at the request of the FBI.
The administration also aims to highlight the distinctive tattoo of Abrego Garcia’s left hand, marking its partnership with the MS-13. He has a marijuana leaf, a smiley face, a cross, and a tattooed skull on his fingers.
This is the hand of those who feel Democrats should be brought back to the US. Because he is such a “gorgeous and innocent man.” They said he is not a member of the MS-13 despite him tattooing an MS-13 on his knuckles, and two highly respected courts were found… pic.twitter.com/31snr2k1sk

Buquere told the court announced Sunday that Abrego Garcia would not return to the United States. State Department officials said he was no longer in Secott, but now he was “in his own room with his bed and furniture, and he was not in his cell.”
