Gunshots break out in SLC, Utah during ‘No Kings’ protest; police urge protesters to disperse

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in a “king” protest near 200 State Street on Saturday night, urging officials to disperse the demonstrations in an orderly manner.

“You can confirm that the shooting was seriously injured,” the department posted to X at 8:29pm.

A Utah News dispatch reporter who was on the scene was littered with crowds, some screaming that they had heard gunshots. Photojournalists also witnessed what appeared to be victims lying in the streets, with several people administering aid. Soon afterwards, the victim was seen loaded into an ambulance.

Police also said officers have “people interested in detention.”

They urged people to leave the demonstration “safely and orderly.”
