Radio host Hugh Hewitt said Friday on Fox News’ “Honity” that he believes Miami will have all the “banks and finance” in New York City if Democratic candidate Zoran Mamdani wins in November.
Socialist Democrats secured the nomination Tuesday after former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was recognized before the race was officially called. While discussing the city’s potential new leadership, guest host Kellyanne Conway asked Hewitt what his message was for business owners as Mamdani pushed tax exemptions for high-income earners.
“I think they should try and do everything they can to defeat Mamdani, or they’ll have to leave,” Hewitt said. “I said today in my previous Fox program, and I expect Miami to support Mamdani because they’ll have all the banks and finances that will leave New York City, a city of 8 million people. But there’s a huge sector of finance and banking that’s about to flee.
Since Mamdani’s major victory, major business leader Bill Ackman has been with him, like billionaire hedge fund manager Concerns On how his policies could hurt the country’s biggest cities. in post In X, Ackman calls Mamdani’s proposal “dangerous and economically unfeasible” and warns that “cities can’t print money and this federal government will not bail out NYC if things get worse.”
Hewitt warns homeowners and parents in the city, calling Mamdani the “most radical” candidate. (Related: Megyn Kelly’s guest explains what the “crazy” thinking led to progressives handing over to socialist candidates)

“I also want to warn people who are at war on housing. He wants to regulate rent,” Hewitt said. “It’s about scarcity of housing and raising rents. He’s in a campaign against basic centrism. He’s the most radical candidate I’ve ever seen nominated for a major office in the US political race.”
“He’s that radical. His parents in New York City have to worry as much as businessmen as he’s directly affecting the school. I think it’s a disaster for this guy to win, but that’s New York City,” added Hewitt.
Some Democrats like New York’s Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, who, along with GOP, support Mamdani, have raised concerns about his agenda.
Mamdani has pledged to raise the minimum wage to $30, impose a state-level corporate tax, and apply a 2% flat tax on high-income earners. The mayoral candidate claims the hike will help raise $10 billion to fund free childcare, public transport and government-run grocery stores.
Mamdani also opposed the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration, ending cooperation with ICE and vowed to “hold to Trump” the city by allocating more than $160 million to legal immigration funding.
