Coca-Cola Amphitheater Set to Open in Birmingham
After years of planning, the eagerly awaited Coca-Cola Amphitheater in Birmingham’s Druid Hills neighborhood is finally ready to welcome visitors starting Sunday. The venue, which costs $46 million and is located on the former Callaway Hospital site, has been developed as a key component of the Star Uptown Redevelopment Project.
With a capacity of 9,380, the amphitheater aims to host some impressive names in entertainment this upcoming season. The inaugural acts include comedian Matt Life, followed by well-known artists such as the Dave Matthews Band, Def Leppard, and Rod Stewart.
This new venue is a collaborative effort involving the Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC), the city of Birmingham, Jefferson County, and Live Nation, and it is expected to draw over 220,000 visitors annually with its diverse event offerings.
Residents of Druid Hills have expressed satisfaction with how well developers have engaged with the community, addressing key concerns related to parking, noise, and pedestrian safety. Planned amenities include shuttle services for the Uptown Entertainment District and a trolley service to transport guests from local hotels and restaurants to the amphitheater.
Jay Wilson from Live Nation noted the significant change this site represents, remarking that it once served as the state’s primary trauma center but is now set to become a top destination for live music.
