Amyed Jemington Enters Alabama Senate District 10 Race
Amyed Jemington, hailing from Rainbow City, has officially entered the race for Alabama Senate District 10. Her campaign emphasizes conservative principles and aims to address issues like infrastructure, education, and veteran support. She’s challenging the current Senator, Andrew Jones, in the upcoming Republican primary for 2026.
Minton, a longtime resident of Etowah County, draws on her professional experiences in healthcare and education, as well as her involvement in the Republican Party. She and her husband, Dr. Morley Minton, have lived in Rainbow City for many years, where they’ve raised two children.
While she worked at the University of Alabama and the University of Birmingham, Minton earned a Master’s degree before moving into roles at Bristol-Myers Squibb and in Pharmaceutical Sales. She took a break from her career during her husband’s medical school years to support their children and became active in their school community, notably as a volunteer at Eura Brown Elementary in Gadsden.
“A lot of my time has been spent helping my kids learn to read, and it’s still my passion,” she remarked. “I believe my daughter, Dr. Laura Minton Gerton, is headed for a career at Mayo Hospital, and my son, David, is on track to become a software engineer at Trideum Aerospace Corporation.”
Minton currently serves as the vice-chairman of the Etowah County Republicans and represents Capitol 7 in the Alabama Executive Republican Committee’s 10th District. Additionally, she’s a member of the Etowah County Library Board and has been appointed by Governor Kay Ivey to the Alabama Public Library Services (APLS) Committee.
Her campaign is structured around ten legislative priorities:
- Opposing overregulation, excessive taxes, and government overreach affecting small businesses, farmers, property owners, and citizens.
- Collaborating with local leaders to fund repairs for roads and bridges, including prioritizing the new South Side Bridge, while promoting industry growth through transparent communication.
- Supporting parents, teachers, and schools with an emphasis on boosting district reading scores.
- Highlighting USDA data about Alabama’s foreign land ownership, which ranks fourth in foreign-held land.
- Voting against gambling and opposing its expansion within the state.
- Defending Second Amendment rights, drawing from personal experiences with home intruders while living in Birmingham.
- Advocating for military families and veterans, particularly in terms of mental health services.
- Supporting churches and faith-based addiction recovery groups that focus on mental health maximization and recovery celebrations.
- Promoting vocational education and trade skills programs, while encouraging growth at Gadsden State Community College.
- Opposing what she describes as the indoctrination of children related to gender ideology.
Minton’s values are shaped by her Christian faith, her family’s long-standing military service, and her ties to small and medium-sized businesses and agriculture.
“Freedom is not just freedom. I understand that the fight won’t end when we leave the battlefield,” she stated.
