Nicole Wadsworth’s Campaign in Turmoil
Nobody’s quite sure what’s next for Nicole Wadsworth, who’s running for the position of Lieutenant Governor of Alabama in 2026. According to her former campaign manager, she’s lost her entire campaign staff.
Hunter Weathers, a recent college graduate and previously part of Governor Kay Ivey’s team, stated that he left the campaign along with all the staff. Interestingly, he mentioned that before leaving, he had to address some inaccuracies that had circulated about Wadsworth’s academic background.
It turns out that instead of holding a PhD in Economics from the University of Alabama as claimed, Wadsworth’s credentials are linked to an online seminary in Florida that isn’t certified and offers degrees that are essentially useless for further education or employment.
On Thursday, the Florida Institute of Technology acknowledged that they couldn’t confirm Wadsworth as a student or whether she had completed any degrees there. This only adds to the complications surrounding her campaign.
In a somewhat bizarre twist, Weathers sent an email to state press members suggesting that they refer to Wadsworth as “Dr. Nicole Wadsworth,” which raised eyebrows. Just a week later, he had to issue a correction admitting the misinformation.
Weathers expressed disappointment in how misinformation and misunderstandings had complicated the campaign’s efforts to establish trust and clarity. He had hoped to bring honest and impactful representation to Alabama, but the revelations made that increasingly difficult.
He emphasized that he did everything possible to correct the narrative before leaving, but it seems the truth slipped through the cracks. Meanwhile, Wadsworth’s past claims have also been called into question. She stated she had never run for office before, but records show she attempted a run for state senator in 2017 and withdrew shortly before the primary. She also ran for the Alabama Agricultural and Industrial Commission in 2018.
Additionally, while Wadsworth claimed to be a mediator, there’s no record of her being listed as such by the Alabama Center for Dispute Resolution, which is a bit concerning. A request for verification about her mediation credentials went unanswered.
In terms of business, Wadsworth has several companies registered under her name in Alabama, including those in real estate and development. Interestingly, a new company, “Jones Wadsworth Inc.,” was formed recently with state legislator Tim Wadsworth listed as a registered agent.
While she uses the surname “Wadsworth” in her official documents, questions remain about her marital status, particularly regarding her relationship with Tim Wadsworth. No marriage certificate has been found in local probate courts, nor any statewide records, leaving some wondering about the legitimacy of her claims.
As things stand, Weathers apparently forwarded inquiries about Wadsworth’s marital status to her campaign just before resigning, a rather abrupt end to a campaign that’s clearly facing significant challenges.
