Senator Tuberville Honors Local Veteran for Service
U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville has continued his role as a community leader by recognizing Sergeant Kurt Griffith from Florence, Alabama, as the “Veteran of the Month” for June, honoring his service in the U.S. Marine Corps.
In a video released by his office, Tuberville commended Griffith for his dedication and resilience, as well as his commitment to assisting children in need throughout Northeast Alabama. The announcement was also shared on X, which was previously known as Twitter.
“Our veterans have a unique ability to turn challenges into opportunities. No one exemplifies this better than Sergeant Kurt Griffith from Florence,” Tuberville remarked.
Griffith faced hardship early in life, losing his father at six years old. However, he found purpose and community in the Marines, and today, he strives to offer that same sense of belonging to young people in the Shoals area.
“Kurt has also utilized his military skills through local involvement with the Marine Corps League and the Toys for Tots Charity,” Tuberville said. “Under his leadership, the program has grown to cover five counties in northeastern Alabama: Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Winston, and Marion.”
Through Griffith’s initiatives, Toys for Tots has broadened its impact, providing support to about 2,000 children annually over the last two years. The program aids families particularly during the Easter and Christmas seasons.
“He dedicates countless hours each year and ensures that children know they’re not alone,” Tuberville added. “Kurt is a remarkable example of strong leadership and commitment to service. I am proud to recognize him as the ‘Veteran of June.’”
Each month, Tuberville honors Alabama veterans who demonstrate outstanding service both in and out of uniform. Community members can nominate deserving veterans by reaching out to the Senator’s office.
