Jesse Battles declares his campaign for the Alabama Senate, taking on current Senator Andrew Jones.

Jesse Battles Announces Senate Candidacy in Alabama

Jesse Battles, a lifelong resident of Etowah County and a local business owner and farmer, has officially announced his candidacy for the Alabama Senate, aiming to unseat incumbent Senator Andrew Jones in the upcoming 2026 Republican primary.

According to a statement shared on Facebook, the decision to run was influenced by community members who expressed unease about the current leadership in the district. “I listened, and I’m ready to answer that call,” Battles remarked.

Positioning himself as a conservative, Battles emphasized his dedication to what he refers to as “Alabama values.” His campaign platform includes a focus on social issues, reforming education, supporting veterans, and enhancing economic development. Additionally, he vocally opposes Critical Race Theory (CRT) and initiatives regarding diversity and inclusion and has expressed his backing for former President Donald Trump.

Battles was critical of Jones’ legislative record, arguing that the incumbent has backed measures detrimental to local businesses, veterans, and essential services funded by local governments. He accused Jones of promoting legislation that adversely impacts local employers and claimed Jones has made decisions that could centralize authority over veterans’ representation.

In terms of his policy agenda, Battles pledged to collaborate with local officials to draw in new industries to northeastern Alabama. He plans to advocate for infrastructure improvements, including the expansion of I-759 and the New South Side Bridge, while also supporting local agriculture and law enforcement. He mentioned addressing inflation and trade challenges that affect both farmers and consumers.

With a history of public service, Battles has worked with the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office on Voter ID enforcement and cost reduction initiatives. He also serves on the Gadsden-Etowah Industrial Development Board and leads the Gadsden Rotary Club. He graduated from Gadsden State Community College and Jacksonville State University, where he established the Republican branch.

“This is not about politics, it’s about people,” Battles stated in his announcement. “Take your leadership home.”

The Alabama Republican primary for the state Senate 10th district is scheduled for May 19, 2026.
