Congressman Push for Cuts in Federal Spending
Lawmakers Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) and Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) are urging Congress to start formalizing some cuts suggested by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
This week, President Trump reached out to Congress with a proposal to reduce spending by $9.4 million. This includes cuts in public broadcasting and foreign aid.
“We’ll be receiving the retirement package from President Trump soon. This package solidifies $9.4 billion in cuts. We are finally addressing the waste, fraud, and misuse we’ve seen in government for a long time. People are expecting Congress to make these reductions official. Let’s move forward!”
Moore expressed this sentiment in a recent statement. Americans, he pointed out, are waiting for action.
Strong emphasized the need to cut funding specifically for National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), citing a perceived left-wing agenda. “The plan from President Trump identifies $9.4 billion in unnecessary foreign aid and biased media funding. I’ve been advocating for defunding NPR from the get-go. Taxpayer money shouldn’t support what I see as leftist propaganda. Let’s act quickly to move this forward and prioritize American taxpayers,” he mentioned.
Earlier this year, Strong also introduced the 2025 NPR Act, aimed at stopping taxpayer funding for the organization. Notably, Republicans may be able to pass this legislation without Democratic support, given their majority status in both chambers.
