Mo Brooks regarding his Senate run: ‘Unlikely’ but ‘more probable than it was a month or two ago’

Mo Brooks Considering Senate Opportunity in 2026

Former House Representative Mo Brooks is contemplating a potential return to the Senate in the 2026 election. This comes on the heels of U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville’s announcement to run for governor, which has sparked rumors about the possibility of Brooks seeking Tuberville’s soon-to-be vacant seat. It’s worth noting that Brooks previously lost to Katie Britt in the 2022 primary by a significant margin.

During a recent appearance on WVNN’s “Dale Jackson Show,” Brooks addressed the situation, saying, “I don’t think it’s going to happen yet, but it’s more likely than it was a month or two ago. We’ll have to see how the economy, diplomacy, and our national debt play out.” He seemed somewhat uncertain, noting the impact of various factors on the political landscape.

There’s also speculation regarding whether Auburn men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl might enter the Senate race. Brooks expressed skepticism about Pearl running, suggesting, “I think there’s a better chance I’ll run for the Senate than Bruce Pearl will.” He underlined the risks Pearl would face, especially concerning his current coaching position and the financial implications of stepping down to pursue a political career.

Brooks highlighted the complications Pearl might encounter with Alabama Republican bylaws, particularly regarding financial contributions to Democratic candidates over the last six years, which could hinder Pearl’s ability to participate in the GOP primary.

Ultimately, Brooks pointed out that running for the Senate during the basketball season could be detrimental to Pearl’s coaching career, given the timing. “He’s making millions of dollars as Auburn’s coach,” Brooks remarked, indicating that the stakes are high for anyone considering such a significant leap into politics.
