STRANDED HIKERS: POTATO PATCH LOOP TRAIL, HUALAPAI MOUNTAINS | The Buzz -The buzz in Bullhead City – Lake Havasu City – Kingman – Arizona – California

On Friday night (2/10) at about 6:00 pm, the Mojave County Sheriff’s Office received a call for help from a father (age 52) and son (age 21) who needed help hiking down the mountain. rice field. They left at about 3:00 pm that afternoon to hike along the Potato Patch Loop in Hualapai Mountain Park. They couldn’t handle the snow and ice on the trail. They began experiencing symptoms of frostbite and were unable to continue their hike. The Mojave County Park Rangers and Search and Rescue team got to work and started walking to where the hikers were. The team brought supplies, SKED for transport, and thermal blankets. Once the team arrived, they started a fire and began to warm up. Once I warmed up, I was able to walk back to the trailhead at Recreation Area 3 with the help of a rescue team. The search team used a combination of micro spikes, ice cleats, snow shoes and hiking sticks to safely navigate the trails. Search and Rescue would like to remind everyone to bring the right equipment and supplies for any situation they may encounter while recreating the Mojave County wilderness. By the way, beware of bears in the area while hiking here!
