Funding supports the upcoming 2025 Southern Fried Film Festival

Lights! Camera! Action!

This summer, the Southern Fried Film Festival is set to grace Huntsville’s Entertainment Marquee, thanks to various grants.

Support from local and state grants helps highlight this annual celebration of remarkable films and filmmakers from around the globe.

“We are so thankful for the generous contributions from Arts Huntsville, the City of Huntsville, and the Alabama Arts Council,” remarked Trevite Willis, the festival’s founder and director. “These grants, summing up to $31,992, reflect the growing impact of the festival and promise to enhance the experience for everyone involved.”

“Bringing filmmakers to Huntsville and allowing them to engage directly with audiences is incredibly valuable,” he added.

The festival benefited from a $14,292 arts and cultural grant provided by Arts Huntsville and the City of Huntsville. This decision underscores the community’s dedication to supporting the arts, according to a news release.

Additionally, the Alabama Council of the Arts awarded two grants: one for $12,600 and another for $5,100, bolstering perceptions of the festival’s cultural significance in the state.

“The Alabama Arts Council is pleased to support the Southern Fried Film Festival,” noted Dr. Elliot Knight, the council’s executive director. “Our grants aim to enrich cultural expression, boost the creative economy in the state, support artists and audiences, and enhance the overall quality of life across Alabama.”

The funding helps festival organizers reach a broader audience, deliver excellent programming, and facilitate meaningful interactions with filmmakers.

Attendees can look forward to Q&A sessions after screenings and engaging panel discussions throughout the weekend.

Organizers highlighted that this funding accentuates the festival’s role in fostering connections between communities in Alabama and revitalizing the arts and culture scene in the state.

The Southern Fried Film Festival will take place from June 5th to 8th at various locations in Rocket City. For more details, visit Southernfilmfestival.org.
