Floodwaters have overtaken parts of the road and front yards on Christie Street in Dyersburg, Tennessee, as of April 10, 2025.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has given more than $1.8 million in assistance for individuals affected by the severe storm that hit in April.
As of July 2, FEMA has processed 206 applications, amounting to approximately $948,000 in housing aid and $871,000 for other necessities.
These individual support funds complement public assistance funds intended for local governments to cover repairs to public properties and infrastructure.
Disaster declarations were approved by President Trump for certain counties in Tennessee on June 20, following a request from Governor Bill Lee to seek federal aid for recovery from a destructive tornado and prolonged flooding.
The early April storm caused significant damage, impacting around 300 homes and 14 businesses or nonprofits, with 10 fatalities reported. The McNairy County Emergency Management Department assessed that the EF-3 tornado, which struck Selmer, led to approximately $27.6 million in damage to private property alone.
Support has been sanctioned for eligible applicants in several counties, including Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Dyer, Hardeman, McNairy, Montgomery, Obion, and Wilson.
This assistance may cover temporary housing, home repair grants, post-disaster support services, and low-interest loans for uninsured losses. FEMA clarifies that aid won’t apply to losses that are already covered by insurance.
FEMA advises that those impacted should file claims with their insurance provider first before seeking FEMA grants.
Individuals affected can apply through DisasterAssistance.gov or via the FEMA Mobile App, or they can call 800-621-3362 for assistance. Recovery centers provide support and information about FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration. However, all centers will close on July 4. Details about each center, including hours and resources, can be found at FEMA.GOV/DISASTER/4878.
