Free Screening of Documentaries in Montgomery
The Alabama Resisters Indivisible group is hosting a free screening of the documentary John Lewis: Good Trouble on Saturday, July 12th, at the historic Capri Theatre in Montgomery. This event honors the legacy of the late civil rights leader and the members of the House of Representatives.
Kicking off at noon, the screening aims to educate attendees and promote ongoing citizen engagement, especially surrounding the issue of voting rights. Following the film, there will be group discussions.
The organizers have stated, “Everyone is welcome.” While there’s no charge for entry, seating is limited. Attendees are encouraged to register ahead of time.
John Lewis, who passed away in 2020, was a key figure in the civil rights movement. He made history as the youngest speaker at a Washington event in March 1963 and became widely known for his bravery during the march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma.
The Alabama Resisters mentioned that this event is part of a broader nationwide commemoration for the “Good Trouble Lives On” initiative, which is set for July 17, 2025.
Several local nonprofit organizations will also participate in Saturday’s event. The Montgomery Freedom Fighters will have a resource table as they prepare for the “Good Trouble Lives On” rally. The Greater Montgomery Women Voters League will offer voter services, while the American Democratic Socialists will be collecting donations for school supply drives. Essential items include clear or mesh backpacks and notebooks, with a complete list available online.
The Capri Theatre is located at 1045 E. Fairview Avenue in Montgomery.
