Wisconsin Rep. Mark Pokan Responds to Immigration Policy Criticism
On Wednesday, Democrat Mark Pokan from Wisconsin took to social media to express his frustrations over immigration policy criticism with some colorful language.
Republican Derrick Van Olden posted about the arrest of 11 undocumented immigrants in Minneapolis. After Van Olden questioned why Pokan and fellow Democrat Rebecca Cook responded in a harsh manner, saying, “put these criminals in front of American citizens.”
Pokan shot back with a tweet that included a mix of sarcasm and defiance, acknowledging Van Olden’s comments with a dismissive tone. “Argue Bill, chicken little bitch. lol. You’re going to turn me upside down,” he replied.
The back-and-forth escalated from there. Van Olden voiced his opinion on X, stating, “This is not normal behavior,” suggesting that Pokan might need mental health support.
In response, Pokan noted that there was clearly more to the story, implying that Van Olden seemed reluctant to confront more significant issues. He continued to disparage Van Olden’s understanding of legislative details, specifically denouncing his knowledge about the larger budget bill.
Pokan further criticized Van Olden, claiming, “I don’t know why @DerrickVanorden keeps showing his ignorance.” He pointed out inaccuracies regarding financial specifics in the bill and emphasized that these matters were part of a broader legislative context.
The debate centers around President Trump’s recently passed budget bill, which was touted as aligning with his policy aims. The bill, passed by a narrow margin in the House, extends tax cuts, modifies child tax credits, and earmarks funds for border security, among other provisions.
This legislative change could have implications for various sectors, with some lawmakers expressing concerns about its future impact, especially regarding healthcare and federal spending.
