SEC Media Days 2025: Who emerged as the winner in Atlanta?

SEC Media Days Wrap Up

Thursday marks the conclusion of this year’s SEC Media Days, which many fans eagerly anticipate as a key moment in the college football offseason.

For four days in Atlanta, coaches and selected players came together to discuss the upcoming season, address controversies, dive into quirky topics, and other aspects surrounding the unofficial kickoff of football.

As the week wraps up, some coaches and players clearly emerged as standout figures in what’s often referred to as “talking season.”

Among the notable remarks, LSU’s coach Brian Kelly expressed optimism about this year’s opener against Clemson. The Bayou Bengals have struggled historically in their opening games but seem undeterred this season. Rather than shying away from the challenge, Kelly emphasized his team’s readiness and resilience, highlighting a recent big offseason through the transfer portal and the return of star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. There’s a palpable sense of confidence radiating from Baton Rouge, though obviously, only time will tell how things play out on the field.

On a different note, Hugh Freeze, who might not have been expected to dominate discussions, really made a statement in Atlanta. Rather than leaning on the classic line about “What I inherited,” he shared his genuine enthusiasm for the current team, asserting that he believes they can vie for a playoff spot. Whether that’s a realistic assessment remains to be seen, but he certainly gained the backing of his fanbase with his confident demeanor during a challenging offseason at Auburn.

Arch Manning’s presence at the event was another highlight. Entering his first season as a starter, he’s under immense pressure but seemed composed when addressing the crowd and media. The buzz surrounding Manning is real, and he appeared unphased by the scrutiny.

Deontae Lawson also drew some attention this week, particularly when discussing comments made by Florida quarterback Thomas Castellanos about Alabama. Castellanos had mentioned he didn’t notice Alabama stopping him amid a tough season prior. In response, Lawson maintained his cool, focusing on preparation while delivering a memorable line about addressing any rudeness appropriately. It’s clear the intensity surrounding the upcoming matchups is building.
