Red Mountain Theatre Presents “Waitress”

Drawing from Adrian Shelley’s cherished film, the Tony-nominated musical “Waitress” offers heartfelt lessons about discovering joy in surprising moments. The story follows Jenna, a waitress and talented pie creator, who finds herself stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. After learning she’s unexpectedly pregnant, she worries that her dream of opening her own pie shop is slipping away. However, a baking contest nearby and a charming new doctor in town present her with new possibilities. With the support of an eccentric group of fellow servers and loyal customers, Jenna starts to uncover the courage she didn’t know she had. “Waitress” will kick off on Friday, July 18th.

Birmingham Museum of Art

The Birmingham Museum of Art is showcasing an exhibition of Harish K. Patel’s collection, featuring South Asian Silver & Ceremonies from 1830 to 1930. This exhibition runs until Sunday, November 30th, and highlights over 150 silver pieces, exploring their role both as decorative art and as significant cultural elements during a time of great change.

WC Handy Music Festival

The annual WC Handy Music Festival is currently happening and continues through Sunday, July 27th, with events throughout Florence, Sheffield, Tuscumbia, and Muscle Shoals. This festival honors the late musician who earned the title “The Father of the Blues” after writing “Memphis Blues” in 1912. A native of Florence, he was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 1993. You can find more details here or follow along on Facebook.
