Incident Involving Border Patrol Agent in NYC
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has made public footage capturing a Saturday night incident where a Border Patrol agent was ambushed and fatally shot, allegedly during an attempt to rob illegal immigrants.
According to reports, agents were attacked by two men around 11:50 PM at Fort Washington Park in Manhattan, accompanied by a female on a moped. DHS indicated that this event seems to be an attempted robbery as of Sunday. One suspect has been identified as having illegally re-entered the U.S.
Tricia McLaughlin, the Homeland Security Director, stated that one of the attackers had outstanding legal issues in Massachusetts. “The first subject is illegal re-entry,” she noted in a post. Additionally, authorities confirmed that on July 19th, an officer was shot during what appeared to be a robbery attempt, while current information indicates that the injured officers are stable and recovering in the hospital. The NYPD is currently conducting an investigation.
In a tweet, DHS shared footage revealing two attackers and highlighted that one of them, Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, had been identified as a Dominican Republic citizen who had previously entered the U.S. illegally. His prior arrests include one in Arizona, and he has a criminal warrant in Massachusetts.
McLaughlin also mentioned that Secretary Kristi Noem will be holding a press conference in New York City on Monday morning to discuss the incident further.
