Sen. Tuberville: Each illegal immigrant in the U.S. costs taxpayers $70,000 annually – ‘They need to return home’

Senator Tuberville Discusses Immigration Enforcement

Since taking office in 2021, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville has positioned himself as a strong advocate for enhanced immigration enforcement. This past Sunday, he appeared on the Cat Round Table with John Catssimatidis to talk about former President Donald Trump’s continued efforts to address illegal immigration and its associated crimes.

“President Trump is attempting to set things right and restore the country, which is quite a challenge after the previous four years,” remarked Tuberville, a Republican from Auburn.

He highlighted the government’s focus on immigration, stating, “We are starting to raise the walls. There’s funding from the big beautiful bill—$150 billion. We’re increasing the number of ICE agents and border patrol officers.”

Tuberville went on to discuss the financial impact of undocumented immigrants, mentioning a notable rise in self-reports regarding their presence. “Taxpayers are footing the bill for about $70,000 a year for each undocumented individual in the country. We simply can’t bear those costs. They seem reluctant to go home, even though it’s estimated millions have made that choice,” he added, pointing out the complexities tied to human trafficking.

Tuberville also cited law enforcement actions in Alabama as a significant example, mentioning a recent raid on a Mexican restaurant connected to a drug cartel and human trafficking allegations. “It was a substantial operation,” he said.

According to Tuberville, challenges faced by immigration enforcement agents stem from liberal policies, particularly in cities like Los Angeles. “In blue states, you see protesters confronting ICE agents, which can escalate to dangerous situations. They’ve hurled bricks, rocks, and even fired guns,” he explained.

Throughout his Senate tenure, Tuberville has proposed several laws aimed at combating the influx of illegal immigrants, including security measures at the border. These initiatives were introduced during the ongoing 118th Congress.
