Sen. Cassidy Aims to Ensure Medical Organizations Follow Trump’s Child Gender Change Ban

Senator Cassidy Calls for Compliance Evidence on Child Gender Transition Procedures

Republican Senator Bill Cassidy is urging major healthcare associations to provide proof that an executive order from President Donald Trump aligns with regulations against performing child gender transition procedures.

As the chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, Cassidy sent a letter to various hospital associations, demanding documentation by August 7, 2025. The order, titled “Protecting children from chemical and surgical mutilations,” aims to safeguard minors from irreversible medical procedures, which, according to Cassidy, can lead to significant health issues such as loss of sexual function and reduced bone density.

Cassidy expresses his concerns as a physician, highlighting that institutions should not promote these procedures when evidence suggests they are harmful. He emphasizes that healthcare standards for children’s care should reflect the best available scientific evidence.

In addition, the National Association of Community Health Centers, the Federation of American Hospitals, and the Association of American Hospitals also received similar requests. These organizations were asked to submit Children’s Gender Change Guidelines and disclose federal funding used to educate members on these procedures. Cassidy criticized reliance on guidance from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, which he viewed as based on questionable science.

The correspondence indicated that providers might be confused by differing standards from WPATH as they seek to adhere to federal mandates.

Cassidy has previously called on medical organizations to halt the promotion of puberty blockers and irreversible surgeries for children, emphasizing the need for compliance with Trump’s executive order. His push comes amid ongoing investigations into potential medical fraud in the child gender transition industry.

Finally, responses from the relevant organizations and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association were not obtained following requests for comments. Cassidy continues to advocate strongly for protecting children from these procedures.
