Dear Editor:
I am writing to strongly advocate for Yavapai County Proposition 479. This is an important measure designed to address the county’s growing needs without raising taxes. The proposal focuses on maintaining critical services rather than funding new projects, and is designed to reflect current realities such as population growth, technological advances, and high inflation. We’re trying to update outdated spending limits.
Over the past 40 years, Yavapai County has experienced significant growth. Spending caps set decades ago by the state of Arizona are no longer sufficient for thriving communities. Rather than relying on state-imposed restrictions, it’s time to take control of funding and decision-making by empowering locally elected county boards of supervisors.
Win-win proposition: Provide essential services without raising taxes
Proposition 479 provides practical solutions to address pressing needs such as infrastructure improvements, public-facing websites, road repairs, and advanced equipment for public safety and search and rescue operations. Despite the necessary funding, current spending caps limit our ability to address these critical areas. This proposal allows us to effectively fund these critical services without raising taxes, allowing us to continue to support our growing communities.
I would also like to recognize the dedicated service of the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors. Yavapai County’s commitment to public safety is critical to our county’s quality of life. Maintaining and strengthening our infrastructure and safety must remain a priority for all of us.
Note that Prop. 479 is a county action with no tax increase, unlike Proposition 478, another City of Prescott proposal that also includes a sales tax increase. We are not affiliated with these initiatives, so please keep this in mind when voting.
For these reasons, we strongly encourage you to vote “yes” on Yavapai County Proposition 479. Your support will help ensure our county can effectively meet its needs and continue to thrive.
Thank you for considering this important issue.
Sincerely,
Yavapai County Sheriff David Rose
