AACC Names McCasland National Trustee of the Year

The Association of American Community Colleges (AACC) has named Yavapai College District Governing Board Chair Deb McCasland National Trustee of the Year. The award was announced at his AACC Awards of Excellence Gala on Tuesday in Denver, Colorado.

McCasland, a YC alumnus who served on the District Steering Committee for eight years and chaired the last three years, was named AACC Trustee of the Year by Dr. David B. Borofsky, Director of the Arizona Community College Board of Trustees. was nominated for This award honors directors who have made significant contributions to the university, demonstrated exceptional leadership, and presided over significant achievements that benefit the university, district, state, system, or foundation.

In his nomination, Borofsky praised McCusland for his “remarkable growth” as a leader, his tireless community involvement and statewide advocacy, and his unparalleled passion for student success. . “She is the premier councilor focused on student success,” wrote Borovsky.

In 1976, Deb began his 34-year career as Director of Student Activities at Yavapai College. Her most successful achievements have been the founding and development of community event programs and performing arts charities. In 2010, Deb was named Outstanding She Yavapai College Alumni and in 2011 she retired from Yavapai College as Director of Major Gifts. She has been elected three times to represent the Second District on the Yavapai College District Steering Committee.

Yavapai College was also a finalist for two other AACC Excellence Awards. YC President Dr. Lisa Line said he was one of five AACC CEO of the Year finalists.

The college was also one of six finalists in the Student Success Initiative, which stems from the Promise program.

AACC is a non-profit organization that supports community colleges in the country. It represents approximately 1,200 institutions and over 11 million students. The Awards of Excellence reflect and promote the association’s priorities and highlight ‘promising practices’ of member colleges.

Yavapai College operates six campuses and centers throughout Yavapai County, offering over 100 degrees and certificates, bachelor’s degrees, student and community services, and cultural events and activities.
