Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said Wednesday that Vice President Kamala Harris lost to President-elect Donald Trump because Democrats ignored working-class voters.

“It’s not really surprising that the Democratic Party, which has abandoned working-class people, now realizes that the working class has abandoned them,” Sanders said. “First it was the white working class, but now it’s Latinos and black workers. While Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. That’s right.”

Sanders expressed skepticism about the party’s willingness to change course or counter the influence of big money and highly paid consultants that control party strategy.
“Can the big interest interests and highly paid consultants who control the Democratic Party learn any real lessons from this disastrous campaign?” Sanders continued. “Will they understand the pain and political alienation that tens of millions of Americans are experiencing? Do you have any ideas on how we can counter? Probably not.”

President Trump grows support among voters without a college degree, winning 56%, up 6 points from 2020, Reuters reported. Harris secured 55% of college-educated voters, matching Biden’s 2020 results.
Trump also maintains high support among working-class white voters, although his support has declined slightly by 1 percentage point from 2020 to 66%, according to Reuters. Additionally, Trump improved his vote share among nonwhite voters without a college degree by 8 percentage points.
