ABC News political director Rick Klein said Friday that Republicans are now widening their strategic lead in key battleground states, and Democrats are now losing their lead in the lead-up to Election Day. I warned you.
During the 2024 election cycle, Republican leaders in battleground states, along with Republican presidential candidates and former President Donald Trump, adopted the traditional Democratic strategy of encouraging voters to get to the polls early. Klein told ABC News 4 that pollsters may not yet know voters’ preferences, but Republicans in Nevada outperformed Democrats in 2020, and Republican voters are currently voting. He pointed out that he has a 4 point lead over the Democratic Party.
“But in Nevada, as you can see, Democrats had a significant advantage in early voting.”[ing] 4 years ago. That has now been erased and turned upside down. What happened in Nevada four years ago was that Democrats basically built a firewall before Election Day. That’s gone now. The question is: Are these just Election Day voters voting early? ” Klein asked.
ABC’s political director went on to say that although Republican voters do not have the lead in early voting in Pennsylvania, the gap has narrowed from four years ago, leaving Republicans with only a “300,000 to 400,000 vote advantage overall.” He pointed out that there was no. “Republicans are definitely listening to the message about early voting in a different way than they did four years ago,” Klein said. “Again, it was a year of COVID-19, so things were a little different. What we won’t know until Election Day or after is who was supposed to vote on Election Day. Are they voting early, or are they voting for the first time and are enthusiastic about voting early?
clock:
“Because right now, at least in many large states, we don’t have such an overwhelming number of Democrats,” Klein added. “They still have time to do it, but it’s going to take a bigger Election Day than they had four years ago.”
Klein also said Republicans saw a surge in early voting in Michigan and Georgia, both key battleground states for the 2024 election.
“What we’ve seen so far in Michigan is that voting hasn’t even started yet, but when it comes to people returning their ballots by mail, 56% of them are Democrats, up from 59% four years ago. So it’s not a huge difference in Michigan, but again, it’s very early on,” Klein said.
“Georgia is setting records for early voting. More than 2.3 million people have already voted in Georgia. This was four years ago, and it was 490,000. [to] 41 Democrats favor, 8 points. This was a one-point disadvantage for Democrats,” Klein added.
Democrats are increasingly concerned about the potential outcome of the 2024 election, which could lead to Harris’ defeat. Polls and experts have highlighted the vice president’s inability to connect with voters on their biggest concerns about the economy, inflation and immigration.
According to a RealClearPolitics average, polls in seven battleground states show Trump leading Harris by 0.8 points. The latest national poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal also showed Mr. Trump leading the vice president by 2 points, 47% for Trump and 45% for Harris.
