The U.S. House of Representatives impeached Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday in a near party-line vote of 214-213.
This was the second attempt to impeach a cabinet minister, after failing to garner enough votes last week. The articles of impeachment now go to the U.S. Senate, but are unlikely to pass in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
House Speaker Mike Johnson said Mayorkas needs to be held accountable for his reluctance to secure the southern border.

Mayorkas has given the American people Thank you for the harm.”

Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Sachs) said Mayorkas deserved to be fired for his “dereliction of duty.”
Mayorkas deserved every vote in favor of impeachment that he got. He is a derelict in his duties, and our country is less secure because of him. @HouseGOP We will not stop until our borders are secure. https://t.co/WomxiK2AIv

Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) said voting for impeachment was a constitutional obligation.
I voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas for violating his oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.
He may have a right to believe in open borders, but he has no right to keep his current job. American citizens deserve better.

They are putting American families at risk and causing chaos in our cities. It is past time for him to be held accountable.
