Actress Mishel Prada visits Yuma to get out the vote for Kamala Harris

On Sunday afternoon, with just over 50 days until Election Day, actress Michelle Prada rallied volunteers in Yuma before making a call to urge people to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.

“You are part of a movement that is shaping a country where justice and basic compassion and empathy need to prevail,” Prada said. He is best known for the Starz series Vida and currently stars in the Peacock series The Continental.

She met with Yuma County Democrats last weekend at one of several events in Arizona and across the country to kick off Latino Heritage Month, which begins Sunday and runs through Oct. 15.

Francisco Martinez, a Democratic Party volunteer in Yuma, said Yuma may be considered a red county with a Republican majority, but he sees a growing wave of support for Harris.

Martinez, a medical worker, said, “When I held a rally (Saturday), some people said, “I used to support Trump, but I don’t support him anymore,” and I felt a strong sense of support for Harris.” Ta. “Before[with President Joe Biden]it was just kind of stale, but now I’m feeling really high energy.”

Francisco’s wife, Naomi Martinez, said an important issue to her is more funding for public education because she is a school psychologist.

“I’ve been really excited since Kamala Harris became the (Democratic) nominee,” she said. “I feel hopeful.”

Yuma County Democratic Party Chair Zante Bullard told KAWC that while local Democratic leaders have purchased commercial radio ads and posted on social media sites to remind Yuma voters that they have a plan to vote, He said volunteers have been knocking on doors and making phone calls.

“People are excited to have a candidate (Harris) who is professional, common sense, and who will advocate for common sense policies for all Americans,” Bullard said. “The issues that matter in Yuma are the economy, water, natural resources, jobs, and they are important to ordinary Americans.”

Other local candidates at Sunday’s rally included Yuma County Recorder candidate Emilia Cortez, State House LD23 candidate Matias Rosales, State Sen. Brian Fernandez, and Yuma County Assessor candidate Brian De La Hoya. It was included.

Arizona for Harris leaders said they expect to open a campaign office in Yuma as early as this week.
