WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Authorities are working to identify additional human remains on March 13 in the wreckage involving multiple vehicles along Interstate 40.
On Monday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office announced that one of the vehicles involved in the crash near Williams was a BMW SUV, with additional human bodies being found.
During the recent winter weather storm, DPS reported multiple vehicle collisions throughout Arizona’s High Country.
ABC15 previously reported on one of the crashes that took place near Williams, Arizona. The collision included 22 vehicles, of which 13 were passenger cars, five were commercial vehicles, and five were non-applicable trailers. It is unclear whether the BMW is part of the 22 vehicles involved or part of the additional crash vehicle.
At the time, authorities announced that two people had died and 16 people were injured in the incident.
Six days after the crash, CCSO announced it was looking for a family of three who were reportedly missing after a trip to the Grand Canyon. Their rental car, identified as a BMW, was last tracked along the I-40 on the same day as other crashes.

Authorities are working to determine whether the bodies found in the wreckage are from missing family members.
Authorities say the process of identifying the body requires “meticulous inspection” due to the extent of the damage. The Yabapai County Examiner’s Office is working to identify the remains.
