Representative Robert Adderholt had a conversation with Phil Williams on right-leaning media on Tuesday, centered around what he described as “one big beautiful bill” that recently passed in the Senate and is heading to the House of Representatives.
Aderholt (R-Haleyville) mentioned that while the legislation isn’t flawless, it’s a step toward progress and helps avoid abrupt tax cuts that have occurred historically.
“I have to say, there’s no perfect bill coming out of legislative bodies run by humans,” Adderholt explained. “Every piece of legislation has its issues. What we need to be cautious about is not discarding the good with the bad.”
Lawmakers are optimistic that the OBBB will secure the necessary support in the House, including from those previously worried about the increased spending associated with the bill.
“At the end of the day, I think the Freedom Caucus will back this,” Adderholt added. “I believe everyone is concerned about excessive spending. It’s not just the Freedom Caucus—this is a worry for all Republican lawmakers. Still, we want to make sure we adequately fund the border wall, and I think that’s been handled well.”
“It’s not perfect, but honestly, no bill I’ve ever encountered from Washington, D.C., or any other legislative group has been without flaws.”
