ADOT is ‘blocking’ freeway closures through Super Bowl weekend

Work will continue, but with limited restrictions in mind for special event traffic

Drivers in the Phoenix area will not be “blocked” by the planned closures along the Valley’s freeways for the two weeks leading up to Super Bowl LVII and the two weeks immediately following. The Arizona Department of Transportation announced a “goal line stand” against the construction closure.

Work on the improvement project can continue, but ADOT is working with contractors to implement what it calls a “time-out” in the event of a complete closure of the Phoenix-area highways between February 1 and February 15. I called.

ADOT has designed “no closure play” to limit the impact on Super Bowl and other special event related traffic. Other events include the Waste Management Phoenix Open in North Scottsdale and soccer shows and concerts in Phoenix, Glendale and other cities.

ADOT Central District Manager Randy Everett said: “Our team can focus on work off the pavement, but we want to avoid conflicts with ongoing improvement projects, whether they are visitors or local residents.”

After “review by authorities,” ADOT said there may be rare cases where nighttime lane or ramp restrictions with limited traffic impact are scheduled in areas away from special events. I am adding.

Information about highway conditions, including unscheduled closures or restrictions due to disabled vehicles, collisions, or other incidents, is available from ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site. az511.govYou can also get information by calling 511 or via ADOT’s Twitter feed. @Arizona DOT.

ADOT plans and builds new highways, additional lanes, and other improvements in the Phoenix area as part of the Maricopa County Area Regional Transportation Plan. The project is partially funded by Proposition 400, a dedicated sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004.
