PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation announced it is working on an improvement project for State Route 347 in Maricopa.
ADOT says the project will widen and widen the highway to ease traffic congestion and reduce travel times.
The $7.3 million project began Sunday and is scheduled to continue through the summer of 2024. Traffic restrictions are expected to begin within the next week.
Most construction activity takes place during the day, Monday through Friday, with some nighttime work also taking place. ADOT will oversee access to businesses and neighborhoods throughout the project.
What are they doing to Route 347 in Maricopa?
Improvements include adding a third northbound lane to 2.1 miles of SR 347 (John Wayne Parkway) from SR 238 (Smith-Enke Road) to just north of the city limits.
Additionally, ADOT says the following improvements will be made:
- Widening of the SR 347/Lakeview Drive intersection and reexamination of the existing paved median.
- Add a northbound acceleration lane for traffic moving from westbound Lakeview Drive to northbound SR 347.
- Add curbs and gutters along the east side of SR 347 from north of SR 238 to Lakeview Drive.
- We are repairing the pavement in the project area.
Once the project is complete, ADOT will transfer long-term maintenance and operations of SR 347 to Maricopa.
