ADOT’s Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory (March 10-13) – Phoenix area

Phoenix – According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, highway improvement projects will require closures or lane restrictions in the Phoenix area this weekend (March 10-13). Drivers should plan alternate routes in plenty of time. The following highway regulations are scheduled.

  • Southbound I-17 will be closed between Cactus Road and Northern Avenue from 8:00 PM Friday to 11:00 AM Saturday. (11 March) Pavement improvement project. The I-17 southbound ramp for Greenway and Thunderbird Road was also closed.Detour: Consider using Eastbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) to Southbound SR 51 as an alternative freeway route to downtown Phoenix. Southbound I-17 drivers may consider exiting before closing and using his 19th or 35th Streets southbound.
  • Northbound I-17 is closed between Northern Avenue and Yorkshire Drive (North of Union Hills Drive) Saturday 11am to Monday 5am (March 13) Pavement improvement project. Northbound I-17 ramps on Bethany Home Road and Glendale Avenue were also closed.Detour: Consider using the northbound SR 51 to the westbound 101 loop (Pima Freeway) to reach across the I-17 closure. Northbound I-17 drivers may consider exiting before closing and using his 19th or 35th Streets northbound.
  • Westbound US 60 between Alma School Road and McClintock Drive was closed from 9:00 pm Friday to 5:00 am Monday. (March 13) Pavement improvement project. Both ramps on Loop 101 have been closed to the westbound US 60. The westbound US 60 ramps at Stapley, Mesa and Country Club Drive were also closed.Detour: Consider using Westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain or Santan Freeway) as an alternate freeway route. Westbound US 60 drivers may consider exiting before the closure and using Westbound Baseline Road or Southern Avenue to travel across the closure.
  • Westbound I-10 ramp to northbound SR 143 (Toyooka Expressway) Closed Friday 10pm to Monday 4am (March 13) I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Detour: Drivers heading to Sky Harbor Airport should consider taking the westbound I-10 to 24th Street or Buckeye Road to the airport’s west entrance. Note: Northbound 48th Street/SR 143 will narrow to one lane between Broadway Road and University Drive from 7pm Friday to 7pm Saturday (March 11) and then closed (same area) Saturday 7pm to Monday 4am (March 13). time is adjustingDetours include Eastbound Broadway Road to Northbound Priest Drive and Westbound University Drive. Eastbound I-10 “connection ramp” between 48th Street and Broadway Road will be closed from 7:00 p.m. Friday to 4:00 a.m. Monday (March 13).
  • Westbound Loop 303, between Interstate 17 and Lake Pleasant Parkway, will be closed Saturdays from 7 AM to 5 PM. (March 11) Due to new interchange construction. Detour: Consider using westbound SR 74 on the southbound Lake Pleasant Parkway to connect to Loop 303 across the closure.
  • Eastbound I-10 (Bound for Tucson) narrowed to one lane All night Between Riggs Road and Gila River Bridge (Near SR587) Sunday 9pm to Monday 5am (March 13) Pavement improvement project. Westbound I-10 (For Phoenix) It was then narrowed to one lane. All night Between Gila River Bridge and Riggs Road, Monday to Thursday nights, 9:00pm to 5:00am (March 13-16). Allow for extra travel time and be prepared to slow down and merge safely as you approach and pass through all work areas.

ADOT plans and builds new highways, additional lanes, and other improvements in the Phoenix area as part of the Maricopa County Area Regional Transportation Plan. Most projects are partially funded by Proposition 400, a dedicated sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004.
