A dog was rescued from a canyon at Little Panted Desert Park near Winslow on January 16. A dispatcher was called by a distraught owner and Sergeant Chisholm of the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office answered and determined that the dog had fallen into a ravine. With the help of Auxiliary Volunteers (SAVs), and the Arizona Department of Public Safety, she was rescued unharmed.
according to Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page“At approximately 10:00 a.m. on January 16, the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a call that a woman needed help in the Little Painted Desert Park area north of Winslow.
NCSO Sergeant Chisholm responded to the area of Little Painted Desert Park north of Winslow, along with Navajo County (SAV) Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteer Stuart and Arizona Department of Public Safety Trooper Hancock. Upon reaching the area, law enforcement found a distraught female subject, identified as a woman in need. She was walking her two dogs near the edge of a gorge when one of her fell into the gorge and could not locate or injure them. Reported that it was not possible to check if there was.
Responding law enforcement officers walked along the edge of the canyon in search of the dog and heard the dog wailing in the crevice. I couldn’t. The Joseph City Fire District Rope Rescue Team was called to the location for assistance. Rescue team Jeff Dixon was able to rappel safely down the side of the canyon and rescue the missing dog, Lila, who was unharmed during the ordeal.
