Ainsworth will not be a candidate in ’26

Ainsworth Decides Against 2026 Governor Run

Will Ainsworth has declared he will not be a candidate in the upcoming 2026 gubernatorial race. This announcement came via a statement on social media Wednesday morning.

“After much reflection and discussions with family, friends, and supporters, I’ve decided not to pursue the governor position during the 2026 election,” Ainsworth shared. “Kendall and I believe it’s best for our children to transition into the private sector as they approach their high school years.”

Ainsworth made it clear that he will continue to advocate for Alabama and its residents for the remainder of his term. “Serving as Alabama’s lieutenant governor has been the honor of my life, and during the remaining time in my term, I will keep working tirelessly to uphold the conservative values of Alabamians and fulfill the commitments I made when first elected,” he noted.

He also highlighted several recent accomplishments regarding critical issues in the state. “We’ve led initiatives to eliminate the sales tax on groceries and managed to enact the largest tax cut in Alabama’s history. School choice remains a priority because we trust that parents know what’s best for their kids. Moreover, our state is recognized as one of the most welcoming for active service members, veterans, and their families. We’ve also introduced a new high school diploma designed to prepare students for well-paying jobs in the 21st century as they graduate,” Ainsworth explained.

He expressed a strong affection for Alabama, stating, “My commitment to helping people is unwavering. Even if I step away from my elected role, my drive to support Alabama’s growth will remain strong.”
