Alabama A&M Marching Maroon & White to participate in National Battle of the Bands

Alabama A&M University’s Marching Maroon & White Band has gained national recognition once again, as they prepare to participate in the 2025 Pepsi National Battle of the Bands.

This event is scheduled for August 23rd at NRG Stadium in Houston, marking the band’s third appearance at this venue.

The band first showcased their talents in 2015 when it was previously known as the Queen City Battle in Charlotte, and they returned in 2022 after the event relocated to Houston.

“We are thrilled to be included in this renowned event,” said Carlton Wright, the director of the band. “It’s considered one of the premier marching band events in the country, and our students are eager for the chance to perform, travel, and interact with members of other exceptional bands.”

Often referred to as the “Showband of the South,” Marching Maroon & White has a history of performing at notable events.

Earlier this year, they participated in the 2025 Honda Battle for Bands at Sofi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and in 2023, they made an appearance at the 97th Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York City.

“This isn’t a competitive event; everyone involved is a winner,” Wright expressed. “The best part is witnessing our students having fun, connecting with other bands, and taking pride in representing Alabama A&M on the national stage.

“We anticipate meeting many alumni and friends in the Houston area and delivering an outstanding performance for them.”

Event organizers emphasize their commitment to honoring the excellence, cultural pride, and community engagement that HBCU musicians embody.

“Each year, we aim to improve our platform and the experience we provide,” said Derek Weber, CEO of Webber Marketing and executive producer of the national bands. “The National Battle of the Bands goes beyond just performance; it’s a celebration of the legacy, talent, and cultural impact of HBCUs across the nation.”
