Sunbathers and surfers in Orange Beach were in for an unexpected surprise last weekend when a banner plane pulled advertisements for OnlyFans accounts along the coast for all to see. translationHowever, some people were outraged by the promotion, especially given the nature of what was being advertised.
“Sadly, this banner advertises pornography. I'm not in a position to tell adults whether they should or shouldn't watch porn,” Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon said. “But you're a despicable person for posting a pornographic ad on our beach in front of thousands of children.”
Kennon said the city does not have the authority to regulate advertisements flown over the coast.
“We have no jurisdiction whatsoever. We have no say in it. So essentially the FAA is regulated by them,” he said.
“I wish I could, but I'm not.”
Another beachgoer, Heather Tyler from Arkansas, was particularly concerned about the ad's impact on children.
“Kids have little eyes and little ears and they absorb every little thing,” Tyler says, “so if someone's flying something and someone sees it and goes, 'Oh, look, this is OnlyFans. Let's go and see what we can find,' they absorb everything they're told.”
However, others did not see the banner as a major issue.
“Honestly, I don't think it's a big deal and it doesn't bother me,” the Orange Beach resident said. “I have a lot of nieces and nephews here and, to be honest, if they saw it, I don't think it would bother them because they're too young to know anything about it.”
