It has become a cliché at this point for mainstream media to cover Republican responses to controversies rather than the controversies themselves.The headline will be “Republicans Strike” [insert issue here]. ”

But I have never seen a political party “jump on” as much as the Democratic Party over the Alabama Supreme Court's ruling that embryos used for IVF are considered fetuses.

The ruling almost instantly became national news, as media pundits and Democratic politicians tried to use the issue to paint Republicans as extremists.

For example, former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones used the controversy to say that the situation in Alabama is “crazy” and that this is why we need to “change the direction of this state.”

Despite protests from Democrats and the media, the issue of IVF is actually not even that big of a controversy. In fact, I haven't seen such bipartisan agreement on anything in a long time.

Immediately after the ruling, Republicans in Congress said they would move quickly to address the issue, and shortly thereafter state Sen. Tim Melson introduced a bill to protect IVF clinics. Governor Kay Ivey, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, both Alabama senators, and even President Donald Trump have joined Democrats in saying that the IVF procedure is a good thing and needs to be protected. Agreed. And this week, the Alabama House and Senate passed identical bills to do just that. Could you please explain again why there is so much disagreement?

One reason Democrats and the mainstream media are still paying attention to this story is because, politically speaking, they can smell blood in the water. President Joe Biden needs all the help he can get for his re-election in November. Because they can't run on the economy, immigration, foreign policy, or Biden's charisma — they're running on January 6th and planning an abortion.

The second reason for their “jumping” is ideological. The Democratic Party's ultimate goal is not to protect IVF. Their ultimate goal is to legalize as many abortions as possible.

The IVF controversy does not turn Alabama into a pro-abortion state. The majority of Alabamians believe in protecting the lives of unborn children, and that won't change anytime soon.

Governor Ivey put it well in a statement responding to the ruling:

“In response to the Alabama Supreme Court decision, I said that our state is committed to fostering a culture of living,” Ivey explained. “This certainly includes couples who are hoping and praying to become parents using IVF,” said his Republican colleague in Congress, Sen. Tim Melson, along with senators and congressmen. We are working on solutions to ensure these families and their very lives are protected.”

Democrats won't be satisfied until abortion is legal again in the state. I hope Alabamians don't fall into their game.
