The Alabama Crimson Tide is gearing up for the 2025 season, especially after facing off against the Florida Seminoles, and a major offseason question has now been answered.
On Monday evening, it was reported that Ty Simpson will take on the starting quarterback role, a decision that will be formally announced by offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb on Tuesday.
Grubb explained the reasoning behind choosing Simpson, emphasizing that he demonstrated superior command compared to the other quarterbacks on the roster, Austin Mack and highly regarded freshman Kieron Russell.
Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb opens the opening statement:
“Hey guys. Ty Simpson is our starter.”

“Hey, Ty Simpson is our starter,” Grubb stated in his initial remarks. “He did a fantastic job taking care of the football. He’s a remarkable playmaker, especially on the run; I usually worry whether athletes like that can stay disciplined with the ball.
“Overall, the group has a much better understanding of the offense. Ty stood out in that regard. His ability to take control and make things happen in the pocket was impressive. He made the right choice.”
Formerly a five-star recruit, Simpson has been part of the team since 2022, where he initially served as the third-string behind Blythe Young and Jalane Milllow, only to back up Milllow in recent seasons.
Amid a trend of players frequently switching schools, it’s noteworthy that he has remained with the program for four seasons without a start until now. Simpson has been patiently waiting for his moment and is finally poised to demonstrate he can lead the Tide into competition.
