Alabama recruits nation’s top kicker in ’23

As the Alabama Crimson Tide enters Year 1 of the Cullen DeBoer era, if there is any position on the team that should be of concern, it's kicker.

Alabama, under Will Reichardt, has had the best placekicker in a long time, five seasons, but a competition for the kicker spot between Justin Talty, Upton Berenfant and Reed Schuback is becoming a reality.

But in the era of the transfer portal, where it's easy to fill holes with players from other schools, DeBoer didn't hesitate when the opportunity to upgrade at the position arose.

Miami (Ohio) native Graham Nicholson committed to play at the University of Alabama late Sunday night. Nicholson is the nation's top kicker for 2023 and beat out Reichard for the Lou Groza Award as the nation's best kicker.

Nicholson made 26 of 27 field goal attempts, including the longest of his career at 52 yards. Even more impressive, Nicholson made 10 of 11 field goal attempts of 40 yards or more and completed 52 of 73 kickoff attempts for touchbacks.

He is the 10th transfer student overall to commit to Alabama in 2024, among a group that also includes several offensive linemen from Washington and safety Keon Sabb from Michigan.

Nicholson is expected to be an immediate starter at Alabama this season.
