Alabama scores key win in Oxford, setting stage for SEC-deciding game vs Tennessee

The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Ole Miss Rebels on Wednesday night in Oxford, final score 103-88.

It was the ninth time this season that Alabama has scored over 100 points, tying the SEC record held by the Kentucky Wildcats in 1995-96.

The game was very similar to how the disaster against Kentucky started, with a serious lack of defense and the Rebels seemingly making every shot.

Alabama fell behind by 14 points midway through the first half, but fought back during overtime to end the first half with a 16-5 lead and only trailed by three points at intermission.

The Tide then dominated for much of the second half, struggling for a few minutes before completely sinking it, but still securing a 15-point victory.

Mark Sears, as usual, had a great performance with 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

But Aaron Estrada stole the show with his 18, 10, 10 performance, contributing to the first triple-double by an Alabama player since Kira Lewis in 2020. Estrada added four steals to match.

The Tide had six players score in double figures, including freshman guard Davin Cosby Jr., who hit five threes for 15 points and hit two crucial shots late in the game to seal the victory. .

Rylan Griffen added 14 points, and Grant Nelson and Nick Pringle each had 10 points.

After the game, Nate Oats talked about Alabama's slow start and ability to overcome it.

“They were obviously much more ready to play than we were. Give the players a lot of credit for being ready to go. We did a better job defensively from the start. “Even though we lost by 14 points, I thought our players showed a lot of character and grit,” Oats said.

The University of Alabama is gearing up to take on Tennessee this weekend in a game that will most likely decide the SEC regular season title at College GameDay in the city.

The big tilt will be broadcast on ESPN from Coleman Coliseum at 7pm CST.
