Alabama Women’s Foundation names Kimberly L. Jackson as President and CEO

The Alabama Women’s Foundation introduced Kimberly L. Jackson as its new president and CEO on June 16th.

Jackson takes over from Melanie R. Bridgeforth, who successfully led the organization for the past seven years. Under her guidance, the foundation expanded its reach across Alabama, focusing on research, public policy, and strategic grants aimed at enhancing economic opportunities for women. During the transitional period, Lashundra Pinkard served as interim leader, with the executive search facilitated by Boardwalk Consulting.

Bringing over 20 years of experience in corporate leadership and non-profit management, Jackson most recently worked as the government and community relations manager for the Birmingham division of Alabama Electric Power Company, overseeing community partnerships in Jefferson, Shelby, and St. Clair Counties. She also chairs the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce.

“Having worked alongside Kimberly at Alabama Power, I witnessed her consistent commitment to mission-driven results,” noted Yvonne Essix, a board member of the Alabama Women’s Foundation. “Her community-oriented approach and extensive knowledge of economic development will undoubtedly propel women and the economy forward—something Alabama needs right now.”

The foundation aims to help 10,000 women integrate into the workforce and achieve economic stability by 2027.

“Alabama is home, and our mission is crucial for the state,” Jackson commented. “As a native, I understand our community’s strength, but women still face challenges despite progress. We have a chance to shape policies, influence philanthropy, and develop economic strategies that empower women to excel in their careers.”

Elizabeth Goodrich, chair of the Alabama Women’s Foundation, also praised Jackson’s capabilities.

“Kimberly Jackson is the right leader to help us achieve our goal of advancing economic opportunities for women. Our board took great care in this selection process.”

Established in 1996, the Alabama Women’s Foundation is the state’s sole public women’s foundation, dedicated to promoting economic opportunity through a gender-focused approach in its grantmaking, research, and advocacy.
