alabama germany partnership, The statewide nonprofit organization held its 26th annual gala dinner this week, celebrating decades of efforts to foster relationships between individuals and organizations with ties to both the Yellowhammer State and Germany.
At the event, AGP Chairman Michael Brooks spoke about the organization's approach to ensuring continued investment in the German state. That includes hosting an annual dinner, he said.
“The group of economic developers who founded AGP in the late ’90s had a vision. They understood that Germany’s future investment in Alabama would require support beyond the boardroom. That's why AGP focuses on culture, education and business.” Brooks. “The AGP Annual Banquet is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate each of these pillars and recognize how meaningful the relationship between Germany and Alabama has become.”
AGP Executive Director Tine Hoffmeister emphasized the ability of nonprofit organizations to create cultural middle ground.
“Dinners and informal meetings are Additionally, the cultural workshops that AGP hosts or supports across the state are a great way to bring people together and bridge cultural gaps,” Hofmeister said.
“Ultimately, the personal connections that AGP helps start and develop are the fuel that helps Alabama grow, paving the way for future investments and building stronger communities.”
During the dinner, AGP recognized the following companies based in Germany and Alabama for their investment and expansion over the past year. Airbus, BOCAR US, Inc., Eismann Automotive, Knauf Insulation, Rausch & Pausch (RAPA), REHAU Automotive, Schmidt Automotive USA, and Star Collaboration USA.

The organization also awarded the Reiner Bauer Award to Dr. David Bronner, CEO of Alabama Retirement System. This honor was established in his 2001 to recognize individuals for outstanding accomplishments, dedicated service, and loyal friendship to AGP, both in Alabama and Germany. Of particular note is that Broner was a central figure in Alabama's Mercedes-Benz recruiting efforts.
Another recipient was Dr. Rebecca Lynam, a German professor at the University of North Alabama. Lynam received the Dr. Barbara Fischer Teaching Award in recognition of his contributions to the development of German-Alabama relations in northern Alabama through his hands-on teaching and dedicated research.
AGP also welcomed Miele Manufacturing as the state's newest investor.
Currently, more than 80 German companies operate in the state, with investments of more than $10 billion since 1999.
