The college sports world was taken by complete surprise Wednesday night with the shocking announcement that Alabama's Nick Saban would be retiring after 17 seasons as the Crimson Tide's coach.
Saban won one at LSU, six at Alabama and a record seven national championships during his time coaching in the NCAA. His overall record as head coach was 297-71-1.
As news of his sudden retirement spread, Alabama's legislative leaders paid tribute to perhaps the greatest coach in college football history.
U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who was the head coach of the Auburn Tigers from 1999 to 2008 (the only Alabama senator to actually play against Saban on the field), is the head coach of the Auburn Tigers from 1999 to 2008. He said it may never be comparable.
