Senators Move Forward with Spending Cuts
U.S. Senators Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville, along with their Republican colleagues, have passed recommended spending cuts suggested by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
“This is a common-sense approach,” Britt expressed to Fox News ahead of the final vote. “These funds don’t align with their intended mission. We need to keep it manageable and strengthen our commitments to our values and our citizens. At this point, it’s straightforward; Americans deserve better. This isn’t their money; we have a responsibility to handle it responsibly.”
In a close 51-48 vote early Thursday morning, the Senate approved a rescue package for President Donald Trump, which included $9 billion in cuts to global aid programs and public broadcasting.
After the voting concluded, Britt recognized Senator Eric Schmidt (R-Mo.) for his role in pushing the bill through.
“Last night, Senate Republicans reaffirmed our commitment to eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse,” Britt shared on X.
Huge congratulations. Thank you @senericschmitt for getting this done!

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) expressed his hope that this marks the beginning of more spending cuts to come.
“We’re addressing unnecessary Democratic spending and fighting against taxpayer dollar misuse,” Tuberville stated. “And this is just the start.”
