Alejandro Mayorkas Ordered To Testify Before Congress Over Terrorist Threat From Border Crisis

Ranking Republican lawmakers have called on Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to testify before a House committee in July.

Greene said that over the course of more than a year since the Biden administration took office, Mayorkas has not fully responded to requests for specific documents and information about fugitives and other illegal immigrants on the terrorism screening database.

“President Biden and his impeached Secretary of Homeland Security's refusal to secure our border or uphold our laws is quickly putting our country in crisis,” Greene said. According to the letter, Greene, along with Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan and Oversight Chairman James Comer, first requested the information from Mayorkas on May 19, 2023. Since then, the Department of Homeland Security has failed to provide satisfactory documents despite multiple requests over the past year.

The subpoenas come in response to an ongoing migration crisis along the southern border, with more than 7 million migrants entering the U.S. illegally since President Joe Biden took office. according to The latest data from Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

“Amid the chaos, Secretary Mayorkas and President Biden have allowed nearly two million fugitives to elude overwhelmed Border Patrol and roam freely through American communities, creating a near-impossible challenge for our dedicated federal law enforcement agencies who are working tirelessly to find an ever-growing needle in an ever-growing haystack,” Greene said. More than 370 foreign nationals on the terrorism watch list have been arrested for attempting to illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border since the beginning of fiscal year 2021, Green said, a spike in terrorism suspects that represents an increase of more than 3,000% since the Trump administration.

The subpoena calls for Mayorkas to testify before the House Homeland Security Committee on Friday, July 19 at 12:00 pm EDT. Mayorkas also testified before Congress during the House impeachment in February.

DHS did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
