‘All Of A Sudden, Whammo!’: 89-Year-Old Stand-Up Comedian D’yan Forest Receives Sucker Punch To Face, Police Say

Deahn Forrest, an 89-year-old stand-up comedian from New York City, said she was caught off guard and punched in the eye in a brazen, unprovoked attack in broadday light on July 10.

“I thought I'd lost my eye,” Forrest said. CBS New YorkForrest is one of many who have been victims of random attacks across New York City in recent months, and she said she never expected it to happen.

“I didn't know what was happening,” Forrest told the outlet. “I was waiting for the light to change and then all of a sudden, boom! I didn't know what was happening,” Forrest said. Police said the incident happened just before 9am and that Forrest is believed to have been hit by another woman.

Forrest recounted the terrifying experience.

“I felt like my eyes were swollen and then I thought, oh my God, my nose isn't even swollen.”

She explained that after the vicious attack, she was forced to rely on help from strangers.

“I had just had Botox the day before,” Forrest told CBS New York. “They picked me up and sat me on the bench, and I couldn't see out of my left eye.”

According to CBS New York, no words were exchanged between the victim and suspect, and no explanation was given for what happened.

Forrest suffered severe bruising and swelling to his eye and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

“I thought I'd lost an eye … and all I could think about was I had a show in two weeks,” Forrest said.

The comedian turns 90 later this month and is focusing on whether he will be able to perform again in the wake of the incident.

“I just wanted to get better,” Forrest told CBS New York.

According to NYPD data, felony assaults against people 65 and older increased 10% from 2021 to 2022, according to CBS New York.(Related article: Bethenny Frankel breaks silence after being punched in the face in NYC)

“I'm scared. I'm just looking around,” she said.

The forest is expected to fully recover.
