Alleged Ukrainian Drones Strike Moscow Financial District

Ukraine reportedly launched a drone strike on Moscow’s financial district on Sunday in the latest episode of the ongoing conflict.

Drones hit the Moscow City business district, reportedly causing physical damage to some buildings, but no casualties. Reuters. The strike reportedly smashed glass windows of high-rise buildings and dropped debris onto the streets.

No civilians were injured, but the attack casts doubt on the idea that Moscow has complete control over the conflict in Ukraine, Reuters said. (Related: First Chinese parts found in Russian drone used to attack Ukraine, researchers say)

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted Monday as dismissing the Ukrainian military’s attack on mainland Russia as a “desperate act.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Kiev did not take responsibility for the attack, which Reuters said showed the conflict was “gradually returning to Russian territory – its symbolic heartland.”

Tech company Yandex has ordered its employees to evacuate its offices at night due to its proximity to the Russian capital and the high risk of a strike, the media said.

“Given the circumstances, we kindly ask that you not be in the office overnight (between 1am and 6am),” Yandex reportedly told staff. “This restriction applies to all offices in Moscow. Watch out!”

The growing attacks are starting to surprise other Russian civilians.

“I would say that it has increased anxiety for myself as well as for me and my colleagues,” reportedly said an anonymous person who works in the financial district. “Somewhere in my heart, I always knew that City could be one of the targets.”

“I don’t think anyone is safe now,” said another employee of the Russian company.
