Allen urges residents register to vote; primary deadline is near

Time is running out for residents who haven't registered to vote in next month's primary election.

Secretary of State Wes Allen said there is less than a week left in the voter registration period for the 2024 primary election.

“As Secretary of State, I want to encourage all eligible Alabamians to register to vote and exercise this constitutional right.” “Voter participation in safe, secure, and transparent elections is critical to our state’s success.”

Eligible Alabamians must register by February 19 to vote in the March 5 primary election. Electronic voter registration can be completed by visiting: – Voting/Voter/Registration-Vote.

The deadline to submit physical voter registration forms to county boards of registration is Friday. The postmark expiration date for voter registration forms is Saturday.

To be eligible to vote in Alabama, you must be a U.S. citizen, reside in Alabama, and turn 18 on or before Election Day. You cannot be barred from voting or found to be “mentally infirm” by a court because of a disqualifying felony conviction.

On Election Day, voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters will be required to present a valid photo ID when voting at a polling place or by absentee ballot.

For questions regarding voter registration in Alabama, please call the Secretary of State's Office of Elections Division at 334-242-7210 or your local county board of registration.
