A South Carolina woman was killed Tuesday after being attacked by a ruthless alligator while walking her dog on Hilton Head Island, according to CBS News.

Lawmakers responded to reports of an alligator attack near a lagoon adjacent to a golf course in the Spanish Wells area, reports said. CBS news.
Police reportedly found the 69-year-old victim dead at the water’s edge. Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
“During a rescue operation, an alligator appeared and protected the woman, halting emergency operations,” the sheriff’s office said. “The alligator has been safely removed from the area and the woman’s remains have been recovered.”
It’s unclear if the victim’s dog was injured.
Referring to the situation, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources tweeted that “biologists and staff are responding” to the alligator attack.

This isn’t the first time Beaufort County has been attacked by an alligator. In August 2022, an 88-year-old Sun City woman died after being attacked by a crocodile in the lagoon. According to CBS News.
