When he arrived in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 3 of the National League Wild Card Series, the spotlight he had dreamed of since childhood was on him. The scenario was this: one out, two runners on base, New York’s offense was crippled all night, and they lost 2-0 and were on the verge of being eliminated from the postseason. Yes, this is what kids dream about in their backyards, and Alonso said in his post-match interview that he did the same.
And he lived it up when the first baseman hit a three-run home run to give his “Amazing” Mets a completely clutch 3-2 lead. New York continued to win, but 4-2Thursday night’s contest puts both the campaign on the line and a berth to the NLDS against the Philadelphia Phillies.
